When a texture pack still makes sense
If you cannot install a mod loader at all — for example on a locked-down launcher — a resource pack is the only route left. Everywhere else, a client mod is less hassle and far easier to turn off. And on servers the rule is identical for both: use it only if the server allows it.

- What is an xray texture pack?
- It is a Minecraft resource pack that makes stone and dirt fully transparent, so ore blocks stand out. Because the transparency is baked into the textures, the whole world looks hollow until you switch the pack off again.
- Is a texture pack or a mod better for X-Ray?
- A mod is better in almost every way: you toggle it with one key, choose exactly which blocks are highlighted, and pick your own colours. A texture pack cannot do any of that without editing files and reloading.
- Do xray texture packs still work in Minecraft 1.21?
- Some do, but resource pack formats change often and packs break between versions. Advanced XRay ships a fresh NeoForge and Fabric build for supported 1.21.x releases.
- Are xray texture packs allowed on servers?
- Same rule as mods: only if the server allows it. Many servers ban both. Check the rules before you use either one.
